A Brooklyn man accused of beating his girlfriend’s four-year-old daughter to death told his gal pal that he was going to kill the child, according to court papers revealed today.
Chris Marshall, 23, allegedly beat both Alicia McLauglin and her daughter, Halii McCord, in her East New York apartment on November 6, prosecutors said at his Brooklyn Criminal Court arraignment today.
“Both of you are going to learn that you talk too much,” Marshall said as he slapped and strangled McLaughlin, according to his criminal complaint.
McLaughlin told investigators Marshall took Halii into the living room – and she heard screaming and thumps against the wall from that room.
The criminal complaint also states that Marshall told McLaughlin he was going to kill Halii.
The medical examiner said little Halii died after blunt force trauma ruptured her lower bowel, and ruled her death a homicide.
“The defendant assaulted both the deceased and the mother of the deceased,” assistant district attorney Wilfredo Cotto said in court today.
Police sources have said Marshall and McLaughlin were fighting over money. Marshall told investigators the child was struck accidentally after she wandered into the room, the sources said.
Marshall’s mother defended her son.
“My son’s innocent. He didn’t have anything to do with this,” said Tanya Marshall, 42. “Focus all your attention on Alicia because she beat that baby.”
Tanya Marshall added that her son was the one to call 911 because McLaughlin was scared Administration for Children’s Services would take her child.
